Wrong Country in AI Results
Why are my AI results showing the wrong country?
If the AI responses you see in Knowatoa mention brands, platforms, or services from a different country than yours, the most likely cause is that your site or questions are set to the wrong country locale.
How locale affects AI results
When Knowatoa sends your questions to AI services like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, it includes your locale (country and language) as context. If your locale is set to the United States but your business is in Australia, the AI responses will focus on US-based brands and services.
How to check your current locale
- Go to your Site Settings page
- Look for the Country and Language fields
- Confirm they match the country where your audience is located
You can also check individual questions on the Questions page, where each question shows its country code.
How to fix it
- Update your site’s country to the correct locale (e.g., change from US to AU for Australia). This ensures all new questions default to the right country.
- Re-add your questions. Question locale is locked after creation, so existing questions keep their original country setting. Delete the incorrectly localized questions and add them again. They will inherit the updated site locale.
Setting locale at different levels
Knowatoa lets you set a default country and language at three levels:
- Account level applies to all new sites
- Site level applies to all new questions for that site
- Question level is set when creating a question

Sub-country targeting
If your business serves a specific region or city, you can also set Region and City fields when creating questions. This helps AI services return more geographically relevant results.
